Abstract This article examines the emergence of a synergy that allowed early development what was once considered best anti-AIDS program in developing world. Initial responses to AIDS Brazil during 1980s and 1990s were marked by confrontation between activists concerned with human rights, government focusing on biomedical management epidemic. After 1992, activists, medical researchers, officials, international donors like Ford Foundation, health officers, multilateral agencies World Bank galvanized cooperate. complex process braiding knowledge practices related activism, science, public health, governance philanthropy which each constituency maintained its independence. The result complex, holistic, nuanced program. helped bridge gap advocacy, generated awareness, instrumental reducing mortality local resources comprehensive policies.
